This was
my life.
On September 30th, 2009, at the age of 21, Anthony’s life was suddenly and brutally changed forever. While at work, he was crushed in a car at a scrap metal yard.
Anthony’s desire to compete was his main motivation in life. Track and Field became a focus for him and at the 2004 Ontario Federation of Secondary School Athletics (OFSSA) championship, he got his first taste of gold. A promising career seemed to be on the horizon and he found himself dreaming about competing for Canada in the Olympics in the 110 m hurdles.
This was
my accident.
On that day in September, Anthony was in a car that could not move under its own power, so he steered while it was pushed into the yard and up onto a scale. Unaware that the car was occupied, a crane operator crushed the vehicle and hoisted it 15 feet into the air. When a scrap yard employee frantically alerted the operator that someone was still inside, he released the car and sent it crashing to the ground.
Firefighters arrived and extracted him from the car using the Jaws of Life and a helicopter airlifted him to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto where he underwent surgery to stabilize his critically injured back.
The accident resulting in Anthony losing it all – including the use of his legs. Now, as a paraplegic, Anthony excels as an athlete, speaker and accessibility consultant.
But this is
my journey.
Where some might have thrown in the towel, Anthony Lue chose to keep moving forward and to continue his dream to compete for Canada. His sights were set on the 2020 Paralympic Games in Paris until Covid interrupted his (and many others) ability to train and get sponsorships.
But Anthony has set his sights on overcoming all obstacles in his path and is determined to represent Canada – his new goal is the race at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris...
Anthony trains relentlessly, however, training is just one part of the equation. He also needs support and sponsorship. He wants people to know his story and not just the part that’s already been written; he also wants to talk about the chapters yet to come.
Perseverance. Anthony takes it to a new level.
Trying to keep up with Anthony should be a national sport. In addition to Anthony’s rigorous training schedule, being the Principle at Anthony Lue Consultant Inc. (Anthony is RHFAC Certified – Accessibility Consultant), a Model, and a professional speaker, Anthony is also attending The University of Arizona on Scholarship, studying Rehabilitation Management.
It takes a village.
As a 2024 Paris Paralympics hopeful in para-cycling (hand-cycling), Anthony is pushing forward, training in the sport he loves.
Anthony’s story is that of an athlete working to overcome extreme odds — an individual who has set his eyes to the podium at the 2024 Paralympic summer games.
Anthony Lue: Paris 2024 is a call for donors and sponsors to support Anthony on his path to racing on the world’s stage.
